With all of the new and exciting technology currently available it only makes sense that there would be a few awesome programs that are great for students. While not all of these programs are made for or even intended for students, they are great for any sort of student (software engineer –aspiring nurse). Here are the top new free programs for students for 2012.
DropBox – Whether you’ve heard of DropBox or not; you should start using it. The best way to use DropBox is to find someone who already has one and have them invite you because responding to invites earns both you and the invitee more free space. DropBox is a great tool that not only syncs the files from your computer to your DropBox (free computer backup) but also allows you to sync to your DropBox and access your DropBox from any computer. That means you can finish a document on your home computer, go to the library, access your DropBox and then print it without ever having to transfer files! How convenient is that! The one and only disadvantage is that you only get up to 16GB of free space (with a lot of shares) however; you can pay for extra space should you need it.
EverNote – EverNote is another great tool for students. It is also quite possibly the greatest free organization tool ever made! You can access it from your computer, smart phone or tablet and you can use it to organize and search everything from photos, lists, recipes, homework or pretty much anything else you can think of. The normal version of EverNote is free, however; should you wish to upgrade to premium, you can get together with your classmates or buddies and get a 50% off discount (in groups of 3 or more for students).
Google Everything – Whether it’s Google Docs, Google + or Picassa, Google has a lot of really useful tools for students. With Google Docs you can create, write in, save and share documents online. You can also download them in a wide variety of formats (I.E. you can create a Microsoft word document even if you don’t have Word). You can also access Google Docs from anywhere you can log into a computer. Google + is a new (and fun) social site with features that are just a bit reminiscent of Facebook. However; with Google + you can set up circles to include your classmates, a separate circle for your teachers and you can post video hangouts and have a full, online study session with your mates. Not only are Google tools convenient and easy to use, but they are all 100% free which is great for any student budget.
Doodle – Doodle is also good technology for students to have. Doodle is easy to use, free, and can be used without registration. You can use it to easily set up meetings, appointments, events, polls and much more.
Skype – Despite the fact that everyone has heard of Skype at one point in time, not everyone uses it. Skype is a great tool for chat, free online web call, free online call and very cheap web to phone calls. You can also use Skype to do video conferences, meet with your teachers and have a group chat with your fellow students.
